As such, our luxury home builders have taken the time to assemble some common moving mistakes to avoid to aid our customers. Read on for some useful information if you’re preparing to move into your new home from Spall.

Be Sure to Give Yourself Plenty of Time to Pack Items

Not giving yourself enough time to pack your belongings is a huge problem come moving day. It takes time to organize items into boxes for easier sorting when you get to your new home. If you have fragile items, it takes planning and special packing tools to ensure they don’t get broken. Some moving companies also offer expert packing services that you may wish to consider if procrastination is your middle name.

Don’t Forget to Change Your Address & Forward Your Mail

Whether you live in a house or an apartment, you’ll need to notify the U.S. Post Office of your new address and set up mail forwarding once you get there. You’ll also need to tell your bank and transfer all utilities with the utility companies. Don’t forget to inform your employer, insurance provider, dentist, doctor, and probably about a zillion other friends and family members. Study Your New Home’s Floor Plan Well in Advance

On moving day want to have a basic understanding of the new build’s layout. This shouldn’t be very difficult since we built your new home according to your unique design and layout preferences. Identify which boxes will need to go upstairs or downstairs and pack them accordingly. Take detailed measurements of doorways to ensure couches, mattresses, and other bulky items will fit through without scraping the new paint. Cover your new floors ahead of time to prevent scuffing or take care not to drag heavy furniture on the beautiful hardwood flooring. If you must move in inclement weather, take extra precautions to protect your new home and your belongings.

Don’t Forget to Secure Your New Home for Your Family

Your new home will have working fire alarms, smoke detectors and carbon monoxide sensors. It is a good idea to have a fire extinguisher on hand as well. If you have small children or pets, be sure to childproof your new home to avoid accidents and injuries. You should also develop an escape plan with your family in case of an emergency. It’s always better to be prepared!
